Yes, there are trays and rubberbands of similar writing instruments, and the ones that are in current rotation are all in one place (in the small tray on the right). But I have come to the realization that I have a problem. I. AM. ADDICTED. I love office supplies. And today I realized that I have been hoarding pens and pencils like a crazy person. So much so that my drawer looks like that. But I thought I was organized...
My major missteps (according to Clutter-Free Classroom) are as follows:
- Stop using Post-It Notes. Instead keep one notebook designated for reminders and to do lists. (See that collection of them? Right by the gum? Yeah, there are a bunch! And you should see the top of my desk!)
- Schedule times to clean your desk. Make this a routine. (I'm pretty good at this, but I could do a lot better. I'm thinking when my kids clean up. What a concept?)
- Stick to one pen (!!!!!!). Pick a brand and color that you like and use it exclusively. Only keep 2-3 on hand at a time. (HOLY COW! Can you imagine how much space I could have in that drawer up there?)
I am totally revamping my desk tomorrow. My next dilemma... what am I going to do with all of that extra space?

I think a prerequisite to becoming a teacher is to be addicted to office supplies. It's an addiction to me as well...but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!! Just found your blog, and now following you!

I'm glad you found me! I am you're newest follower, as well!
DeleteGet rid of it! Life without a desk is liberating! :) I still hoard office supplies- I just keep them in an area where all of us- kids included have access. My "special" supplies- star shaped paper clips, colored sharpies, and personalized stationary all fits on one shelf! Good luck with the organizing and cleaning!
ReplyDeleteThat would be great! Unfortunately (and fortunately), our rooms were completely renovated last summer and my desk is built in. I could use it as a reading nook... Hmmm... now you've got me thinking!
DeleteOooh a reading nook! That sounds so cozy! Aren't renovations a joy and a challenge at the same time? I would love one day to have whatever budget I need to design exactly the classroom I would want!
DeleteWelcome to the office supply addict club. :) Yeah...they clutter things up but they make it so nice in the class...I mean, we all could use a million sticky notes, right?? ;)

Glad I found your blog! I try to be organized too. I like the idea of one notebook instead of all those Post Its. I am following you now. :)
